This summer Sequoia trip is easier to plan than you think

Hi Reader,

Ever feel like you want a California national park getaway, but the planning part starts to feel like a whole project?

Sequoia National Park is one of those places that sounds simple at first. See the giant trees, do a hike, take in the views.

Then you start wondering:

Where should you actually stop?
Which hikes are worth it?
Can you see the highlights in one day?
What’s the best time to go?
How do you make it feel fun instead of rushed?

To make the planning easier, I put together a few helpful Sequoia guides you can use as your starting point:

Start here with this full 1-day Sequoia itinerary:

It includes stops like Giant Forest Museum, Moro Rock, Tunnel Log, General Sherman Tree, scenic viewpoints, and more, so you’re not trying to figure it all out from scratch.

A few things to keep in mind if you’re planning a summer Sequoia trip:

  1. Start early if you want the day to feel relaxed. Summer is popular, so getting into the park early can make a big difference, especially for parking and the busiest stops.
  2. Pick your must-see stops before you go. If it’s your first visit, General Sherman Tree, Moro Rock, Tunnel Log, and Giant Forest are great places to start.
  3. Choose hikes based on your energy level. You don’t have to do a long hike to enjoy Sequoia. This hiking guide can help you compare easy, moderate, and harder trails.
  4. Check the season before you plan around specific stops. Summer is one of the easiest times to visit, but it’s still helpful to know what to expect with weather, crowds, and conditions. I broke that down in this guide.
  5. Make it a weekend, not just a rushed day trip. Even if your main park day is one full day, giving yourself a travel day before and after can make the whole trip feel much more enjoyable.

And if planning all the stops, timing, routes, and food breaks sounds like the part you’d rather skip, I also offer custom California itinerary planning to make trips like this easier.

But for now, save these Sequoia guides for the next time you want a summer weekend that feels outdoorsy, memorable, and totally worth the drive.

Until next time,
Shreeyeh

California is such a fun place to explore in the summer because every trip can feel totally different. One weekend, you could be kayaking on a lake. The next weekend, you could be walking through redwoods, relaxing by the beach, or visiting a cute wine country town. That’s one of my favorite things about living here. There is always somewhere new to go. So if you’re trying to plan a summer trip in California but don’t know where to start, here are a few getaway ideas I’d recommend. 1. Lake...

Yosemite National Park: If you can make it to Yosemite in April, I really think it’s worth it. This is one of the best times to...
